MEDICAL OUTREACH

Periodic medical checkup helps improve life expectancy, sadly most Nigerians cannot afford periodic medical checkup due to the high cost of health services in Nigeria. The 2018 Arm of Hope Foundation Health Fair was born out of the need to provide prevailing health knowledge, attitude and preventive health behavior to the less privileged around us. The Fair was held on Monday 22nd April, 2019 at the Dr. O Ezekiel Multipurpose Hall … omoi/orosi psychiatric hospital road rumuigbo, Port Harcourt with a total of Seventy-Nine (79) participants attended the Health Fair (44 Men, 24 Women, 7 Teenagers and 4 Children) in attendance.

A total of 12 health professionals (9 Medical Doctors, 2 Registered Nurses and 1 Laboratory Technician) were present, Some of the health professionals gave free talks on Mental Health Awareness, Stress Management, Lifestyle changes and Heat Wave Management. The beneficiaries also received free blood pressure screening, free blood sugar screening and free one-on-one medical consultations. There was a demonstration of Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) as a basic medical emergency response technique. Out of the Seventy-Nine (79) beneficiaries present 56 participants required further medical attention which Arm of Hope foundation has begun taking steps to ensure that all health issues are resolved immediately. While, the other 21 were certified medically fit but advised to get regular routine health checks.

Overall, the event was successful as participants were very keen and attentive during the health talk sessions and the screenings.

We are pleased to inform you that This initiative of Arm of Hope Foundation was a huge success and was commended by participants and the health care providers. They requested that such fairs be held more frequently to enable the less privileged who cannot afford to go to the hospital for medical attention, can get access to free medical screenings of this nature.
